**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR MONDAY, JUNE 8, 2020

There have been no new positive cases in the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) area since May 10, 2020. The total number of confirmed positive cases is 65, 1 of which remains active. For more information, see phu.fyi/coronavirus.

The health unit is mandated through the Health Protection and Promotion Act of Ontario (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/180135) to track and report certain confirmed and suspected cases of diseases, including COVID-19. This means that the health unit is always notified when there is a positive result. The health unit then works at following up with the positive individual to monitor their health and identify any other individuals who may be at risk of being infected. The health unit then contacts those close contacts and advises them of their risk of exposure in order to stop the virus from spreading.

With the summer quickly approaching, you may have questions about how COVID-19 will affect normal summer activities like going to the cottage and camping, fishing and hunting, garage sales and physical activity. See the health unit’s current recommendations and learn about how to reduce your risk on our website. Visit:http://ow.ly/vphf50zXEmD.

Please continue with measures like physical distancing, wearing a face covering where physical distancing may be challenging, frequent handwashing and staying home when you are sick.

Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818, or the PHU office in your community. See phu.fyi/offices for local contact numbers.

Stay home if you are not well. Stay safe. Stay positive!
