A historical building is set to be taken down.

Officials with Centre culturel La Ronde have decided to tear down their building on Mountjoy North after months of consideration.

The building was ravaged by fire last year.  General Director Dan Ouellet says they were debating the best course of action over the last several months.

“It is a very old building,” he said, “The earliest we can tell, it was built around the late 20’s, early 30’s and was Holy Family School at the time.  We’ve been putting a lot of money into it to maintain it.”

La Ronde has spent the last little while in the old St. Charles School, a building that has taken care of many of the organization’s needs and functions.

The plan, according to Ouellet, is to stay there until they can rebuild.

And the hope is they can rebuild on the old property after the demolition.

“It’s a very busy intersection for some of our older members, there’s some old age homes nearby that gives them easy access to our centre,” says Ouellet.

“We believe that that location is ideal for us and moving forward, that’s where we would like to continue to be.”
