A 22 year old is in custody after a fire nearly destroyed a Windor avenue home on Sunday

On Sunday, June 14, 2015 at approximately 12:20 p.m., police received a call regarding unknown persons in distress at an address on Windsor Ave.

Upon arriving on scene, police located a male individual as well as two other individuals who were inside the residence. Officers attempted to negotiate with the individual through a second story window. Officers then noted smoke coming from the building’s windows indicating that a fire had been started inside. The Timmins Fire Department was also on scene.

Police and firefighters were able to assist two individuals to exit the building safely.

Officers continued to negotiate with the individual inside the residence, and the individual exited the residence with the assistance of a ladder after approximately 45 minutes.

Throughout the incident, various items including large electronics and household items were thrown from the second story window at emergency service workers below. Due to the fire, the building suffered extensive smoke and water damage.

No injuries were received as a result of the incident.

Following the incident, Ted NAKOGEE, 22, of Timmins was charged with Arson: Disregard for Human Life, Mischief endangering life, Assault with a weapon, and Mischief over $5000.
