While transgender celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Chaz Bono are making headlines around the globe – Timmins will be celebrating and honouring our own LGBTQ community with the 2nd annual pride parade on Saturday.

The parade will begin at 3:00pm on Saturday and shouldn’t run longer than 2 hours. With the route receiving approval from city council – the group will march onto Algonquin Blvd heading west to Pine Street and then south onto First Ave where they will then head eastbound along First to Spruce Street, north on Spruce to Second Avenue and across Second Ave to Brunette Road, finishing at the Hollinger Park.

Jay Cividino, a local transgender male says, whether it is a parade or a celebrity making headlines for their transgender transition, it is important because it creates visibility within the community, opening the door for an educational conversation.

Looking back, Cividino says it took years to feel comfortable in his own skin – prompting this advice for anyone struggling to find their true colours

While this advice may seem obvious for many, Jay reiterates the importance of understanding “trans etiquette” when interacting or befriending a transgender person
