Year of change for this week's Relay for Life.

The Relay for Life night is only a few days away and is featuring major changes this year.

Manager of the local Cancer Society, Dave McLaughlin says the biggest change is to the timing of the vent itself.

“We polled our sponsors, supporters, and our top fundraisers and we gave them different options and this one was responded to very well doing it from 6 p.m. to midnight instead of a full 12 hours. We’re competing with exams, the weekend, and cottage time so we felt this was the better way to go.”

A few of the main stages and vending booths will be in different locations but McLaughlin says it’s still going to be as fun as it’s always been.

“There will be some themed laps, timed with live and DJ’d music.  Gabrielle Bazar and Ireland Goddard are playing and the Shaftmen are playing a 45-minute to an hour set to end on a high note.”

Another change was allowing participants to register on their own instead of joining a team.  McLaughlin says that’s put them to over 200 registered people so far.

“There won’t be a huge tent village anymore but we’ll still have a place for you to set up, whether you’re part of a team or going solo.”

Luminaries will once again be sold for $5 during the night with the luminary ceremony taking place at it’s usual 10 p.m.

New this year is the kid zone with inflatables.  Kids part of the Relay can bounce to their heart’s content for free but if you still want to take in the evening’s entertainment, adults can make a $10 donation for a wrist band to enter the grounds while it’s a $5 cover for kids not part of the Relay to use the inflatables
