A number of incidents caught the eye of police in the region over the last week.

First, the OPP is looking for details about a stolen car.

They say on October 31, 2016, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Cochrane detachment was advised of a motor vehicle that had been located on an off road vehicle trail north of Cochrane.

Police investigation revealed that the white passenger motor vehicle had been stolen by an unknown suspect(s) from a residence in the City of Timmins sometime between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on October 31, 2016. The motor vehicle was later abandoned in Cochrane where it was located along with property that had been stolen from a Cochrane motel. The OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) is assisting with the investigation.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for these thefts should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

 

Also from the OPP, during the past three weeks, the James Bay Detachments in Hearst has been investigating criminal activity at a local hobby farm.

Police have charged two persons in relation to the theft.

Jordan PROULX, 19, of Hearst, Ontario has been charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of Theft Under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC
  • Two counts of Enter Premises When Entry Prohibited contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act (TPA)

Oceanne DASTOUS, 18, of Hearst, Ontario has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC and Theft Under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada CC.

Both accused persons are scheduled to appear at the Hearst Ontario Court of Justice on December 14, 2016.

This occurrence is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding these incidents should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

 

Next, a man is facing another four charges after a disturbance during his court appearance.

They say a male person in custody was brought into court to answer to previous Criminal Code charges
laid against him and became hostile during the proceedings.

A Timmins Police Special Constable was assaulted by the man when she tried to calm the man down.

At one point during the altercation, the man is alleged to have threatened to kill the officer.

Other officers rendered assistance to restore order resulting in a separate assault on one of them.
Joshua NAKOGEE, 20, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Two counts of Assault a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Utter a Death Threat contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Fail to comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was brought to court today to answer to these additional charges.

 

And a Peterborough man is facing impaired driving charges.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a traffic complaint called in by an alert citizen about a
vehicle being driven in an erratic fashion in the area of Balsam South in Timmins during the early morning hours of October 30th.

The vehicle was located by Timmins Police officers and the driver was interviewed at the scene.

Based on the observations made by the officers, the driver was required to provide a breath sample directly into an approved screening device.

Based on the results of that test, the driver was arrested and taken to the Timmins Police headquarters to complete further breath testing procedures.

A 30 year old Peterborough, Ontario, man has been charged with:

  • One count of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Operate Motor Vehicle – More than 80 Mgs of Alcohol in 100 Mls of Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody on a Promise to appear requiring that he attend Provincial Court in Timmins on November 22nd to answer to the charges laid against him.
