Developments are continuing in the story of a couple wanting to develop a sand and gravel pit near Baker Lake.

The city is now looking into getting representation to defend their position against the pit at an upcoming Ontario Municipal Board hearing.

Back in March, Florence and Laurier Goulet came to council to develop the pit.  There were initial concerns on where the city falls under the Aggregate Act.

But later in the year, City Planner Cindy Welsh came back and made the recommendation to pass the item through as it met all the requirements for land use.

Council, after hearing from residents around the lake, voted the item down.

The two-day hearing is set to start March 21, 2017 at 10:00am in city council chambers.
