denise street homicideTimmins Police have an update to the suspicious deaths over the weekend.

Chief John Gauthier says a van went into the water on Algonquin Boulevard East on Friday evening, and the person in the vehicle was transported to hospital.

The man, 23-year old Richard Gagnon of Timmins, succumbed to his injuries.

Police went to notify Gagnon’s next of kin on Denise Street early Saturday morning, when they found two bodies.

These deaths are being investigated as suspicious, and police believe the two incidents are connected.

Police did not confirm the identities of the two bodies in the house, pending a post-mortem in Sudbury on Tuesday.  A post-mortem is also being done on Gagnon in Sudbury to determine a cause of death.

Details from them could be back as early as Wednesday.

Police were able to get the van out of Little Pearl Lake Sunday afternoon, thanks to equipment from the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.

The investigation itself is still in its early stages, and details are limited as Gauthier says they don’t want to release anything that can compromise their investigation.

Gauthier does say that they are confident the incidents are isolated and public safety is not a concern.

Police will update information as it becomes available, and will take time before details are released to media and the public.

Corporate Communications Coordinator Kate Cantin says any information not released by police, like social media, is nothing more than speculation.

She adds if anyone does have information to call Timmins Police Sgt. Lorne Yee at 705-264-1201 extension 8169.
