A recent National Post story is citing “sources” that Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is ready to throw his hat in the ring to be the next leader of the NDP.

Ask Angus, and he’s not committed to the idea at the moment.

He says he’s humbled by the rumours, adding the talk just shows how passionate people are about moving the country forward.

Directly speaking on the rumours, Angus says he’s not in the political game for himself and would want to reach out to constituents in his own riding first.

“I need to do a lot of thinking before making any decisions,” he said.

Angus did take issue with the party insider that referred to Angus in the Post as a “socialist punk rocker with a big heart.”

Angus, with a laugh, said he’d prefer to be known as more of a “righteous hoser.”

Lots of speculation has surrounded Angus’ future plans.  He sits as the current Caucus Chair, a position an insider claims he’s stepping down from by the holidays.

The party has said in the past that they would like a new leader by next October.

No candidates have stepped forward as of yet.
