The Timmins Museum and HGS building is set for a major renovation, and they’ll be getting some new tenants moving in as well.

City council is approving work to be done on the Second Avenue building to accommodate the arrival of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Timmins.

The move by the TEDC wasn’t part of original discussions when the thought of moving Tourism Timmins came about.  However, a few factors have played into the new development.

The TEDC says they have no space to do special projects, additional interns, and their current lease on Elm Street North expires March 2017.

Ironically, it is March 2017 that construction is to be complete for a $524,029 grant from the federal Cultural Spaces Fund to be used.  That is roughly 50% of the total cost of the project, set at $1,086,598.
