UPDATE: Around 3:30pm, OPP, with the help of the Northeast Region Canine Unit, located and arrested two males.

————————

On December 6, 2016, at approximately 9:40 a.m., officers from the South Porcupine Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to intercept a stolen motor vehicle travelling north bound on Highway 144.

The motor vehicle was abandoned and two suspects left the motor vehicle on foot into a wooded area off of Highway 144.

As such, Highway 144 has been closed for public safety at Highway 101 west of Timmins, up to a rest stop several kilometers south of Highway 661.

Police are warning the public to avoid this area and to report any suspicious activity by calling 1-888-310-1122.

The OPP will provide updates as information becomes available.
