Another year, another increase to water and sewer rates.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, as slight increases have been the norm since council decided against a major increase a number of years ago in favour of this route.

In 2017, rates will increase by $50—$15 for water, $35 for sewer—which isn’t the cheapest option on the table…but then again, it’s lower than what was initially proposed.

The recent request from Director of Public Works Luc Duval was aiming for a $60 increase, but the suggestion to move the number down was one done after considering the price of property taxes.

The increase amount corresponds with a five-room residence, and they don’t count a number of rooms to that total.

Rooms like bathrooms, storage rooms, laundry rooms, crawlspaces or unfinished basements.

There was a request for a $30 increase instead, but council voted that down.
