If you’ve been at Hollinger Park as of late, you no doubt have noticed development of the Sk8te Hollinger rinks.

(Yes, a figure 8 AND an NHL-style rink are both being made.)

You also probably noticed snowmobile tracks.

Over the last little while, officials have been putting in preventative measures to ensure sledders aren’t cutting through the park—which for starters, is against a city by-law.  From fences, to cameras and signs, these efforts have seemingly gone ignored by some.

There was a reported incident earlier this winter of a snowmobile causing around $4,000 in damages to the wiring for trees lining the figure 8 track.

And with the “8” set to open, it will be something officials will continue to watch out for.

Snowmobilers have taken to Facebook to voice their displeasure, some claiming they need to get to the gas station beside Hollinger.

For Timmins Snowmobile Club President Raymond Corbeil, he doesn’t want any snowmobiles in the park, but admits the club can’t control everybody.

He adds riders shouldn’t even be on the trails as of yet.

The OFSC website says all the trails are still closed.

Corbeil says it can be dangerous for riders, as officials are patching up holes on the trails at the moment but need more snow on the ground.

He says the trails should be open in the next couple weeks if all goes according to plan.
