Pending final approval at the next Timmins city council meeting, another phase in the forever-long Connecting Link construction will cost the city just over $3.3-million dollars.

This money is earmarked for AECOM to do detailed design work for the main artery west of the Mattagami Bridge.

AECOM was the only bidder on the RFP, which drew some disappointment from members of council.

However, don’t get lost in the multi-million dollar number above.  If this is passed through on Monday night, the city would only be spending $900,000 on detailed design work for 2017 and that work would encompass the entire 21km stretch.

West of the bridge is approximately 6.5km.  The work would include designs to put in a sidewalk from Shirley Street to the Walmart parking lot.

The rest of the cash would be spent little-by-little going towards 2025.
