Don’t expect that extra eye in the sky at area traffic lights.

City Clerk Steph Palmateer denounced any thought of red light cameras, saying it’s just not feasible due to our winter climate, one that lasts for around six months a year.

The city would have to upkeep the area as pavement markings need to be clearly visible in order to enforce any infraction.

“Any infractions that occur while there is snow cover on the highway prohibit the processing center from issuing a fine and subsequent ticket,” the report said.

Palmateer says it’s simply not feasible.  They would need to upgrade intersections to make sure the sensors work properly.

Timmins Police have cameras out at certain intersections already, and require constant maintenance because they get dirty.
