It’s been quite the ride for Tyler Stewart and his wife Nicole Westlund-Stewart.

The two have climbed the Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings this season all the way to 13th spot, and will look to add to that resume next week at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Tyler—who is a Timmins native—and Nicole (originally from Thunder Bay) now live in Kitchener honing their skills.

They’ll be in tough as the field in front of them is a who’s who in Canadian curling, from Rachel Homan to Jennifer Jones and many more.

Both Tyler and Nicole say competing for a national title won’t sink in until they land for the actual competition.  But once it begins, Tyler says it’ll be all business.  Nicole admits the competition field could be intimidating, but they can’t look at the names and need to worry about their own game.

Tyler’s dad Rick, who still lives in Timmins, will be making the trip and act as coach to be an extra set of eyes.

The two of them are vying for a spot at the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, where mixed doubles curling will make it’s debut.

In our full interview, Tyler and Nicole discuss their season thus far, the difference between mixed doubles and the traditional 4-person teams and their aspirations in curling long-term.
