City council was considering cutting service at 10pm on weekdays but it was nearly unanimously voted down.

Mayor Steve Black says they spent $108,000 on these routes last year while only recuperating $18,000 – $10,000 of which came from the provincial gas tax fund.

Councillor Pat Bamford says we’re not in this to make money, it’s about the safety of our riders.

“In this instance, when people are coming from work this is a safety issue or when  it’s -40C below or when a female needs to get home safely.”

Councillor Noella Rinaldo agreed saying she’s surprised she hasn’t received calls on the matter but believes this should come back to council in the coming months for more discussion.

Ward 5 Councillor, Andrew Marks was the only one siding with Mayor Black.  He says its the safest choice to make when we’re struggling to find new ways to save money.

The decision came down to a vote with the motion easily defeated but not gone from council’s mind.
