Many hockey fans in Timmins will recognize the name Logan Ferrington, the starting goaltender for the Timmins Rock in their inaugural season back at the McIntyre Arena.

Now, Ferrington is going from protecting the twine to protecting the streets as one of six new Timmins Police Auxiliary Constables that were sworn in Thursday.

Also joining the ranks are Jordan Guenette, Tanya Johnston, Robert Ferri, Jessica Spence and Lacey Rigg.

Deputy Chief Des Walsh says these officers are all volunteers and work at various events around the city. They’ll also assist Timmins Police officers at incidents.

Walsh says they’re the “unsung heroes” of the force and go through almost the same hiring process as regular officers.

The six will be working in time for the Stars and Thunder Festival, and will also assist at events such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Pride Parade, and the upcoming motorcycle rally.

Walsh also recognized two current Auxiliary officers with promotions. Auxiliary Sergeant Darryl Bender was promoted to Staff Sergeant, and Auxiliary Constable Glenn Simpson was promoted to Sergeant.
