There’s a new leader in town for District School Board Ontario North East (DSB-One).

Lesleigh Dye is replacing the retiring Linda Knight as the new Director of Education, as of August 14th.

In a release, DSB-One says Dye comes over from the Sudbury-based Rainbow District School Board, where she served as Superintendent of Education since 2006.

“In addition to a family of schools, she has been responsible for a number of portfolios from Kindergarten, to Program, to Indigenous Education, to Equity and Inclusive Education, to Adult Education, to Elementary Human Resources, to Leadership,” the release states.

“Through my experiences, I have been honoured to serve outstanding staff who have worked hard to create positive future stories for all students.” Dye adds, “I look forward to working with trustees, staff and all partners within and beyond District School Board Ontario North East to ensure success for each and every student.”

Board Chair Doug Shearer adds: “Lesleigh Dye brings an outstanding wealth of experience, knowledge and abilities to this important leadership role…We know that her vision, caring and direction will ensure the continuing support and success of our students, our families, our staff and our communities.”

Dye has “a Masters of Education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Carleton University. She also has a Certificat de français from Université de Grenoble.”

She also has extensive experience with school boards in large cities.

“Lesleigh Dye has served as Principal and Vice-Principal of large and diverse schools in Toronto and Ottawa. She has also been an administrator in Continuing Education,” the release adds.

“As Student Success Leader with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, she oversaw the implementation of the Student Success Initiative in literacy, numeracy and pathways. She was directly involved in implementing a number of expert panel reports aimed at improving student success.”

“She served as the Central Coordinating Principal, Literacy K to 12, for the Toronto District School Board.”

“A results-oriented leader, Dye has shared her expertise in literacy and numeracy with educators across the province. Her work resulted in a better understanding of exemplary literacy practices and the critical role of instructional leaders in schools,” DSB-One says.

Quite the resume for someone who is following in the footsteps of a longtime educator.

Knight will retire after serving as DSB-One’s Director of Education for 15-years. It was all part of a 48-year career in the education field.
