A three-year business plan is in the works for the Timmins Police.

For the first time, police conducted a survey online to see what residents wanted to see focused on. Corporate Communications Coordinator Kate Cantin says they received 211 surveys.

Cantin says that’s a record when you factor in previous years, when police would utilize paper surveys.

On the surveys themselves, Cantin says things like drug and traffic enforcement, anti-bullying campaigns and downtown foot patrol were prevalent.

Police also held a public meeting this past Monday and gathered more input.

Cantin says one item from their previous plan they want to continue with is crime prevention campaigns.

“Prevention is something that we like to try and focus on, whether it’s educating business owners about anti-theft, anti-vandalism strategies, or educating people through the ‘Lock It or Lose It’ program,” she adds.

Other things include property checks, focused foot patrols and even looking towards technology-related items like reporting a crime via the Timmins Police’s website.

Cantin says the Timmins Police Services Board will take it from here. She says the Board will take things from the previous business plan that are still being worked on, along with input gathered from the surveys to put together the plan for 2017-2019.

The hope is the plan is finalized, put together and made public in the fall.
