The first winter storm of the season may be coming to an end, but the Timmins Police Service is urging drivers to maintain safe driving practices, even though the snow may have stopped falling.
Over the weekend, several minor collisions were reported on Timmins roads, but fortunately no injuries were sustained as a result of these collisions.
Reducing speed is the number one tip for safe winter driving practices. This reduces the risk of losing control while driving, as well as increasing stopping time in slippery conditions. Drivers are also reminded to leave plenty of room between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of them, as well as keeping an eye on what’s going on up ahead.
Clearing vehicles of all snow and ice is also integral to ensure maximum visibility is achieved, as well as to preventing possible damage to other vehicles on the road.
As crews continue to work to clear the roads and highways, keep in mind that recently plowed roads can be slippery, particularly around intersections.
For the most part, drivers have maintained safe driving practices throughout the year’s first winter storm. Police urge drivers to continue to do so, to ensure a safe winter for all who use the roads.
