A motorist was charged under the Highway Traffic Act following a collision that occurred this morning August 1, 2017 on Kamiskotia Road.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a transport truck, and a pickup truck towing a trailer. Investigation by the Traffic Services Section indicated that the pickup truck was travelling Southbound, when the trailer became detached and entered the lane of oncoming traffic. The trailer, carrying a piece of lawn equipment, was struck by a transport truck travelling Northbound on Kamiskotia Road. The road was closed for approximately two hours to allow for cleanup of the debris as a result of the collision.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were sustained. A 59 year-old man was charged with Improper Means of Attachment pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The Timmins Police Service would like to advise motorists of the importance of properly securing trailers or other objects being towed. According to the Highway Traffic Act, there must be two separate attachments – the trailer hitch, as well as two chains to keep the object secure in the event that the hitch fails.

Motorists are asked to familiarize themselves with this information if they are towing trailers, campers, or other objects, to ensure the safety of all motorists using our roadways.
