The Northern Ontario Angels recently touched down in Timmins to help local businesses get off the ground.

The Northern Ontario Angels represent nearly 350 investors who work and live in Northeastern Ontario.  Ana Blouin with the Productivity and Innovation Centre says the investors are only interested in companies from Northeastern Ontario.

“They truly understand how companies, small and medium sized enterprises can succeed because they come from our region.”

NOA gathers investors with northern innovative companies who need alternate funding routes to start or grow their business in a positive environment through networking and pitch events. “Playing the role of mentors, investors and agents, we attract, support and invest in the growth of innovative companies with the potential of having global significance,” says Mary Long-Irwin, Executive Director of NOA, “as well as keep those companies here and contributing to the future economy of Northern Ontario.”

She says there’s a pre-application process for businesses to go through and then it’s either approved or show the door.

“It’s goes through a typical pitch event where investors that are interest might offer them some kind of investment. It’s then up to the company and investor to set up a partnership.”

During the Timmins event, Millson Forestry. Rheault Distillery, and a new undisclosed business were able to pitch their ideas to the investors. The pitch was taped and is now under review.  One of the businesses cannot be named until the review is completed.
