A special Monday meeting of Timmins city council will see the return of the famed Aquatic Centre on the agenda.

The agenda shows a report that recommends “construction ready services” be approved for $1,260,327 (+HST) to Perkins & Will. This is Phase One and Two of the project, which goes into detailed design and tender preparation work.

Further, it asks for Phase Three—or Construction Management Services—to be approved for $420,109.

That last phase, the page adds, would be contingent on “adequate senior government and other funding is secured and council moves ahead with the construction phase of the proposed Aquatics Centre.”

In March, talk around city council members leaned towards building a $48.4-million dollar centre without a diving pool…but with amenities such as a squash/pickle ball court and a field house.

It was at that meeting that council voted 6-2 in favour of proceeding to the detailed design work on this version.

Other versions ranged from two near $35-million dollar options to a near $54-million dollar option.

The meeting will also feature a number of other items:

  • A request from Timmins Porcupine Search & Rescue to make use of Whitney Fire Hall
  • Enforcement Services move to 40 hour work week
  • Tax agreements
  • Numerous declarations of surplus land
