cedar and first avenueIt’s the next step in helping people get a second chance in life.

The Good Samaritan Inn is opening up a drop-in centre next month, with all the amenities to give the less fortunate the tools they need to become self-sustaining.

Executive Director Ed Ligocki explains he’s walked in Downtown Timmins, and have noticed many of the homeless that would be tucked into corners and alley-ways now have a roof over their head.

Ligocki says a roof isn’t enough.  These people also need to have enough money to feed and dress themselves.

“We’re going to help them with basic life skills, the activities of daily living,” he said.

“We’ll help them with banking, show them how to bank properly.  How to cook.  How to communicate with people, that’s very important if you want to get ahead in this life.”

The drop-in centre will be located on the corner of First Avenue and Cedar Street South—with two entrances—right across from Cinema 6 and the Porcupine Dante Club.

Ligocki is hoping to have the centre open three days a week.  If there is a need to have it open more often, Ligocki says they’ll address the need when the time comes.

For those looking for a place to stay, the building in South Porcupine is open as well.

“I think it’s a responsibility of all human beings.  Brothers and sisters need help, that’s what we need to do.  We have to help, and it’s a really good feeling it gives you inside,” says Ligocki.

“It’s more than money could ever give you.”
