A recent inspection of the Golden Manor is less than impressive.

The Ministry of Health says 12 written notifications, 7 voluntary plans of correction, and 4 compliance orders were issued.

Some of the reported incidents include patients needing seat belts in a wheelchair not wearing any, neglect, and  following the wrong procedure during a respiratory infection breakout.  One incident involved a nurse rushing a patient while the patient used the washroom. The nurse did admit she told the patient to ‘hurry up’ and ‘they didn’t own the bathroom’.

The inspectors interviewed outgoing administrator, Heather Bozzer but she has since retired.  City CAO, Joe Torlone is overseeing the inner workings of the Manor until a replacement is found. Torlone says the issues have already been dealt with.

“The Golden Manor had 4 Compliance Orders which required action by January 29, 2016 and February 29, 2016. All Compliance Orders have now been rectified. With respect to the Written Notices and the Voluntary Plans of Correction, they have all been addressed.”

The home for the aged is funded by the city and currently has 177 residents. The inspections from the ministry took place between Nov 6-9 and Nove 12-15, 2015.
