A Timmins resident is facing charges following an attempt to import prohibited weapons into the country.

In August of 2017, the Timmins Police Service received information from the Canadian Border Security Agency regarding a suspicious package. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the package contained several brass knuckles, which are prohibited weapons in Canada.

The investigation was completed by members of the Timmins Police Service Criminal Investigations Section. On October 29, Brandon VIGNOLA, 23, of Timmins was arrested and charged with:

  • Importing a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized Importing of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
  • Breach of Probation

Vignola was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of December 12, 2017.

The Timmins Police Service is reminding the public to be aware of the laws when purchasing items from online sellers. Although various types of weapons may be available to purchase online, this does not mean it is legal to purchase of possess them in Canada.
