Canada Day 2018 will officially be a rock night in Timmins, as the Stars and Thunder Festival will be headlined by Canadian artists Bryan Adams, Our Lady Peace and Matthew Good.

Timmins Mayor Steve Black revealed the full line up Wednesday afternoon at the Timmins Museum.

The biggest non-artist related announcement was that Goldcorp-Porcupine Gold Mines has been named the sponsor for the full festival.

“We’re very happy to have Goldcorp on board as the title sponsor,” says Black, noting that the Canada Day sponsor has yet to be determined. Last year, a slew of businesses and individuals got together to cover off Day 8.

He says they’re making tweaks as they go and there will be a few more as the months go by.

So, buckle up because the lead up to the 2018 festival will surely make headlines from now until June 24th, 2018.

Anyway, to the juicy stuff. Your Stars and Thunder lineup is as follows:

Black describes it as “one of the most iconic festival lineups (patrons) see in their life time.”

“It’s going to be a great week, all week long.”

He says in discussions with promoter Ron Sakamoto, they wanted a lineup that rivaled the 2017 edition—with the likes of Keith Urban, Johnny Reid, Simple Plan, Hedley, etc.—and kick it up a notch.

“We’re really happy with how it’s worked out and any time you get Bryan Adams on Canada Day, it means you’re in a good position to have a great celebration,” Black added.

FIREWORKS
There will be four fireworks shows in 2018, spread out among the eight days in case of weather.

Team Brazil (Fireworks do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) will begin things on Day 1 of the festival.

Then, Team Finland (Team Finland: Oy Pyroman, Espoo, Finland) will go on Day 3. Day 5 will see Team China (China Glorious Celebration Fireworks, Liuyang, China) and finally, Team Canada (David Whysall International Fireworks Inc.) will launch on the final day.

TICKETS
Much like last year, an exclusive Timmins pre-sale will begin at 9am on Thursday, November 16th from the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.

The Sportsplex will be open from 9am to 8pm.

Following that, the rest of the world will get to purchase tickets at noon on Friday, November 17th. That is also when local residents or visitors will be able to go to city hall to grab their ticket (during regular business hours).
