As officials at Timmins and District Hospital identify patients in the Medical B unit carrying Vancomycin resistant enterococci—or VRE—they have decided to open it up to visitors on a limited basis for the holidays.

The following are said limitations:

“Medical B is allowing two (2) visitors at a time per patient. Visitors must remain in the patient rooms and must immediately leave the hospital when finished visiting.

All visitors to other units will be required to wash their hands on entering and leaving the Hospital and before and after visiting patients at the Hospital.

The public is reminded that all individuals with cold, flu or gastro-like symptoms (cough, fever, runny nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) are not to visit any patients at the Hospital.” – TADH officials

They say those measures will minimize the risk of transmission to and from patients.

TDH had closed the unit back on December 1st.
