flooding sopo and mattagami (28)

Timmins is getting a taste of spring this week and warmer weather could be helping in the long run.Timmins’ long range forecast is showing the potential for double digit above zero weather this weekend.  The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority’s David Vallier says this could be a benefit to prevent spring floods.

“It’s still getting cooler at night and it tightens up but there would be less snow to melt when it should actually be melting.”

He says if you look at last year, everyone was ready to build an ark but he says its far to early to predict any actual flooding.

He says cool nights, dam activity, and the actual temperature on melting days always play a huge factor into the potential for flooding.
