From snowmobiles to creating an artistic masterpiece, there are a lot of events planned for March in Timmins.

Here are some of the dates to take note of this month:

There’s a lot going on in Timmins this weekend, starting with tomorrow’s kickoff of Snowmobile week. There will be a flag raising at city hall at 2 and 3pm tomorrow and The Eclipse Financial Snowcross Pro Challenge will be at the Spruce Street South snow dump March 3rd and 4th.

Tickets for Timmins Festival and Events Committee’s Beer Fest go on sale March 2nd at noon. So far, nine breweries have signed on for the Rock on the River fundraiser. All the action for Beer Fest is taking place April 14 from 1 – 8p.m. at the McIntyre Curling Club.

Have you attended the free fitness classes being offered through the Women’s Wellness Program? Feedback from participants is being sought through three evaluative study sessions next month, and the deadline to register for sessions is March 2nd. Ontario Northland is being featured on a Discovery series called Rocky Mountain Railroad. It premieres March 5th at 10p.m., with the first episode taking a look at how Moosonee resident George Ross relies on the train to deliver firewood to Moose Factory. Other episodes will showcase the Polar Bear Habitat, Moose Factory’s High Ridge singers, hockey teams travelling to a tournament, and delivering modular homes to the James Bay coast’s remote communities. Finalists for the 2018 Nova Business Excellence Awards are being notified March 6th. The theme for the Timmins Chamber of Commerce’s annual event being held May 10th at the McIntyre Arena is Business Takes the Stage. To make sure you get to party like a rock star, mark March 22nd on the calendar, that’s when tickets — which are always a hot item — go on sale.

Volunteers and staff from local violence against women service providers will be delivering chocolate roses to area women on March 8th. The event is part of the 21st Annual Chocolate Rose Campaign that marks International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is Mind The Gap. Women are encouraged to step out of their work place March 8th at 1:50 p.m. to demonstrate the inequality of gender-biased wage differences.

Renowned journalist Gwynne Dyer is taking a look at the current state of the world at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre. The event is March 17th at 7p.m. Advance tickets are available at the museum for $10, or they are $12 at the door.

The Timmins Learning Centre’s monthly workshops are taking a look at Employee Standards Literacy with Jamie Roach of First Source HR. The March 22nd session will teach you about Bill 148 (the minimum wage increase) and how it affects you as an employee. It runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Timmins Learning Centre, 208 Third Ave. It’s free for TLC members or $5 for non-members. To register, email learn@ntl.sympatico.ca or call 705-268-8900.

There are a couple of opportunities to create a Ukrainian egg masterpiece at the Timmins Museum this month. Pysanky and Tea is for people ages 10 and up, and is being held March 24th from 1 – 3p.m. at the museum. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and everyone at the event must have a ticket. Tickets should be bought in advance and are $10 plus HST. The Pysanky Craft Bar March 29th is an age of majority event that runs from     6–9p.m. Tickets are $15 plus HST. The museum is located at 325 Second Ave. Or you can call them at 705-360-2617.
