**COLLEGE BOREAL MEDIA RELEASE**

Friday, April 6, 2018 – Sudbury – Collège Boréal
 
Last night, Collège Boréal held its 2017-2018 Athletic Banquet (Gala des Vipères). The annual event aims to celebrate both the athletic and academic accomplishments of Boréal athletes. This year, the Student Life Department, supported by the Athletic Department and Student Council (AGEE), handed out 27 awards and over $ 40,000 in athletic retention, recruitment, and achievement scholarships.
 
This year, Emilie Roy (from South Porcupine, ON) was awarded the Dennis Dionne Award. Created in memory of the late Mr. Dennis Dionne, former Collège Boréal badminton coach, this award is handed out each year from Collège Boréal’s Foundation to the student athlete with outstanding team spirit.
 
The Alumni Award (Prix des anciennes et anciens), new this year, was awarded to Gilles Thibault in recognition of his positive contributions to community sports and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
The following athletes received the OCAA Excellence Award for academic achievement (athletes must have maintained an overall average of at least 3.25): Michel Ayotte, Jonathan Boucher, Myriam Bouffard, Christiane Boudreau, Brianne Chouinard, Darian Dechaine, Zachary Ducharme, Clayton Geddes, Émilie Goulet, Brunette Lafleur, Justin Lamontagne, Mélanie Léger, Fabien Martel, Maude Pâquet, Caroline Pellerin, Nathan Rehner, Émilie Roy, and Stéphanie Sicard.
 
Each year, the Student Life Department recognizes the contribution of one individual who, through his or her commitment and volunteer hours, supports varsity athletes and the College Boréal’s athletic program. This year, Student Life Recognition Award was awarded to Danièle Gervais, physical therapist and owner of Optimum Health Center.
 
During the gala, Collège Boréal also congratulated the following student athletes who will be graduating this year: Christiane Boudreau, Clayton Geddes, Émilie Goulet, Brunette Lafleur, Mélanie Léger, Fabien Martel, Adam Martelli, Nathan Rehner, Émilie Roy, and Stéphanie Sicard.
