The city is melting away with snow removal budget.

Public Works Manager, Ken Krcel says more than average snowfall is pushing them to their limit.

“We’re obviously slightly over budget for January and February because we had a lot of snow in a small amount of time.  Usually we have 12 to 16 weeks to remove snow but we’ve had to try and do it in 8 to 9 weeks.”

Krcel says just because they’re slightly over budget, it doesn’t mean they’ll stop plowing roads or removing snow.

“We’ll get council to help us out with more money along the way.  Usually there are savings in the summer in winter goes long.”

“We have a service to maintain and clear the roads of snow and maintain a certain levels of standards.”

Krcel adds, public works is hoping March bring milder weather and they might get their wish with the temperature hovering above freezing most of the week.
