**OPP MEDIA RELEASE**

On June 12, 2018, members of the North East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be leading a realistic joint training exercise in the area of the Town of Kirkland Lake.

This operational exercise will involve various tactical units, resources and locations. The intent of the exercise is to bring first response agencies and personnel together to coordinate and manage an active scenario under emergency conditions in real time.

Members of various OPP operational and specialty support units are participating in this collaborative exercise. Several local agencies including: the Town of Kirkland Lake, the Kirkland Lake Fire Department and the Kirkland Lake Emergency Medical Services will also play roles in this training scenario.

Members of the public should be aware that this is an exercise, and they should not be alarmed by what may be seen or heard from a specific location.  Residents should expect to see a significant OPP presence within the Town of Kirkland Lake and in the surrounding areas for the duration of the exercise.

In the interests of safety, members of the public and media are strongly urged to refrain from seeking access to the area during this period.

The North East Region OPP assures residents that this training exercise will not impact our service delivery to the Town of Kirkland Lake and surrounding areas.
