OPPOn October 9, 2015, at 6:05 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries on Highway 583 South, south of the Town of Hearst.

Police investigation revealed that an SUV collided with a parked and unoccupied pickup truck.

The female driver and the 39 year old male passenger in the SUV, who are both from Hearst, were transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

The OPP North East Region Crime Unit, OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI), and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) are continuing the investigation.  Police have charged the 42 year old driver with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) CC.
  • Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Alcohol) CC.
  • Care or Control Over 80 mgs contrary to section 253(1)(b) CC.

She was remanded into custody and attended a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on October 13, 2015. Her next bail hearing takes place at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on October 28, 2015.
