speed device

Timmins drivers have a new device on the streets to watch out for.

The device measures the speed of an oncoming vehicle and prominently displays the speed on a large digital monitor to notify drivers of their speed and have them rectify their driving comportment where necessary.

This is a public safety appliance rather than an enforcement tool. The benefits of having drivers aware of their speed should allow for motorists to police themselves and adjust their speed to enhance the safety of area roadways.

This device was purchased with funds provided to the Timmins Police Services Board through the generous auspices of Accident Support Services International (ASSI) and the City of Timmins Engineering Department.

This company (ASSI) manages the local Collision Reporting Centre located within the Timmins Police building.

Don’t look for it in one spot though, officials will be placing the $16,000 device in different areas around town.

The device collects data that can be used by police or the city to figure out traffic counts and the percentage of people who speed in the given area.
